During the Coronavirus quarantine, it is extremely important to take care of not only your physical but also your mental health, as our health directly depends on our stress level.

That’s when meditation comes in place, as it is a powerful tool that will help you overcome the troublesome times of social distancing. Below, you will find some reasons why you should start meditating during the quarantine.

  1. Meditation will reduce your stress

The first and most important reason to start meditating is to reduce stress caused by not knowing what to expect. When we stress, the viruses are activated, and the chances to get sick increase considerably.

This happens because stressing increases the level of cortisol, the stress hormone which, in its turn, releases cytokines, the inflammation-promoting chemicals.

So, basically, stressing about the Coronavirus will increase your chances to catch the Coronavirus, but meditation is what can help you stay away from it.

  2. Meditation will make you more focused

There are numerous things we think about during these times: When will this crazy house be over? Will I go for my needed vacation this summer? What should I do if I get fired? What should I do if my business is bankrupt?

And the more we think about those things, hoping that a thorough thinking will solve the issues, the more we find ourselves thinking deeper and deeper, which brings more issues to think about.

Thinking too much without being able to make actions is useless, and you waste a lot of energy by doing that. Instead of thinking about many different things simultaneously, think about the importance of staying focused.

Practicing mindfulness and meditation helps to focus on the present moment. And the more you practice this, the more you will realize the importance of thinking about 1 thing at a time and uselessness of thinking about multiple things simultaneously.
Just trust life. It knows better…

  3. Meditation will help you sleep

Donn Posner, a specialist in epidemiology and infectious diseases, called the current situation “perfect storm of sleep problems” pointing out how disrupted daily routines worsen the sleep-robbing stress of the pandemic.

The implications of insomnia are numerous, from diabetes and cardiovascular diseases to Alzheimer’s. But probably, the most important one is sleep deprivation suppresses immune system function, which, in it’s turn will increase your risk to catch the Coronavirus as well.

An experiment conducted by the US National Institute of Health concluded that the participants who meditated fell asleep sooner and stayed asleep longer compared to those who didn’t meditate.

Practicing mindfulness and meditation will help you stop your “runaway” thoughts and take control over your mind which is so important during the pandemic.

There are much more benefits of meditation that will be revealed to you once you start meditating. Besides, it doesn’t take that much – all you need is to find 10 minutes of your spare time and use it for something important, something that will help you survive through these hard times of the Coronavirus pandemic.
