Don’t know how to save money for your travel? Would desperately like to see the world? Don’t get frustrated, as you are in the right place. In this article, I will give you some ideas on how to travel on a budget.

- Never buy direct flight tickets
The first thing you should know about traveling is that you WILL have to spend money on a flight ticket (unless you are traveling in Europe). However, knowing the right place to purchase the ticket from is 50% success in traveling on a budget.
I usually purchase my tickets from Kiwi.com, Cheapoair.com, or kayak.com . The flight routes that they build for you are crazily long, sometimes 24 hours, sometimes 36 hours depending on your destination but they offer 50% cheaper options than other websites. It helped me save pretty penny when I discovered these websites and downloaded the apps on my mobile phone.
2. Use low cost flights
Low cost flights let you travel at a much lower rate due to the lower service quality provided. You will not get a meal on a low cost flight, neither will you have enough space for your legs on a low cost flight. You will not be able to pack everything you want on a low cost flight, however, it can help you save up to 60% on your travel which you can spend enjoying a local cuisine that you’ve never tried before.
3. Volunteer Abroad
Volunteering is a great way to save money. You will not have to pay a lot of money for the flight ticket or look for a cheap place to stay. All you need to do is to find a good volunteer abroad company that is trusted and doesn’t have any hidden charges. This opportunity can not only help you save lots of money but also gain a wonderful experience to see the real world and interact with the actual local people, probably even help them.
There are such programs as Sea Turtle Preservation , Organic Farm volunteer opportunities, Trip Leader for HF Holiday opportunities, and many others.
Note: Before you proceed with a volunteer organization, make sure it doesn’t charge you thousands of dollars. A good volunteer abroad company may ask you just a could of hundred dollars for a couple of weeks. This includes meals and accommodation. Usually, volunteers stay in one of the locals’ families during their trip.
4. Find an English teacher job abroad
There are thousands of ESL companies that provide you with teaching opportunities in foreign countries. China is one of the most popular among them. South Korea is considered one of the most well paid countries for English teacher jobs. Each country has its pros and cons job wise. That’s why you need to do your research first and find out what fellow teachers say about working in that country.
5. Find a remote job
3 years ago, I couldn’t have imagined I’d be having so much fun working for an online company. Later, I realized that remote work has its advantages, and I should definitely try them. Now, I can’t imagine working for any other company. I have my freedom – I can live in any country of the world as long as I want and have fun with my job.
6. Try couch-surfing
Couch-surfing is an opportunity to stay in someone else’s house for free. The people who are accepting you to stay in their house do it just to support the traveler’s spirit. You may think “Why would someone want to offer me his bed for free?” The answer is simple: travelers want to help travelers. Couch surfing is safe, and you can try it as well if you want to travel on a budget.
7. Sell your services
If you need some extra cash, you can always try to post an ad on Craigslist, TaskRabbit, Upwork, or Gumtree to find people who need some work done around the house. This is a great way to make money without any long-term job commitment.
These are just some of the ideas for you that may help you make your dream come true and travel the world even without much money. Remember, all you need is a key of courage and a push of persistence – and you will open a gateway to a new reality, and the memories will stay with you forever!
